2GB’s Ben Fordham exposes Aussies unable to work due to Covid vaccine mandates in NSW

‘Thousands’ of out-of-work Australians who refused to get the Covid jab have revealed that vaccine mandates are ‘destroying their lives’ by leaving them ‘helplessly unemployed’.

The New South Wales government on April 20 announced that: ‘Public health orders requiring key workforces to be vaccinated will be lifted’, however bosses are still permitted to enforce their own vaccination mandates if they choose.

This has left workers – including teachers, lifeguards and nurses – unable to make a living at a time when key industries are struggling to find enough staff amid a major workforce shortage.

Daily Mail Australia understands that although jab mandates have ended in several states, many other companies and institutions are still following an unofficial no jab, no job policy.

Organisations who sacked workers when state-ordered vaccine mandates were brought in in 2021, have refused to hire un-jabbed workers but do not have formal Covid jab policy for staff.

‘Vaccine mandates have crushed my family,’ a woman named Suzanne wrote to 2GB.

What are Australia’s vaccine rules for workers in each state?

AUSTRALIA:

Covid vaccinations are entirely voluntary across Australia however the federal government has mandated those who wish to work in high-risk settings must get the jab.

These include areas like the military and aged care settings. But rules in each state can vary.

NEW SOUTH WALES:

NSW has ended mandatory vaccination but individual businesses and industry associations are allowed to make their own assessments on the issue. This means, police, teachers and more must get the jab.

QUEENSLAND:

Workers in high-risk settings like schools, emergency services, healthcare and more are required to get the jab. However exceptions can be made in certain circumstances including a critical staff shortage.

WESTERN AUSTRAILA:

WA’s current mandates apply to a wide range of workers, including those in emergency services, health care, supermarkets and cafes.

But the state will be scaled back significantly from next week with only people working in healthcare, age and disability care, required to be jabbed.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA:

SA’s vaccine mandates have ended but individual businesses are allowed to make their own decisions on whether to hire unvaccinated workers.

VICTORIA:

Mandatory triple vaccination requirements remains in place for – health and aged care, food processing, education workers and more.

Those working in airports, agriculture, creative arts, emergency services, media, science and more, must be double jabbed.

TASMANIA:

Mandatory jabs are in place in a number of setting deemed high risk and individual businesses should seek legal advice before implementing a mandatory jab policy.

NORTHERN TERRITORY:

Health, disability and aged care workers are required to get the jab, along with staff employed at youth detention centres, homeless and family violence shelters.

WHICH COMPANIES ENFORCE VACCINE MANDATES?

Some large corporations which enforce mandatory jabs for workers include: Coles, Woolworths, Virgin Australia, Telstra, the Commonwealth Bank and SPC.

‘My husband was a taxi driver for 17 years. I have worked in a supermarket for 15 years.

‘We didn’t want to have the Covid jab – so we are out of a job. Our daughters are watching us struggle.’

Another desperate Australian, Cherryl, is a registered nurse with 40 years experience but after being forced out of her profession because of the mandates, she’s now working as a cleaner.

Helen, who was formerly working as a nurse in patient transport, is stuck in a similar position.

‘I am now unemployable and I have no choice but to sell my home,’ she said.

Radio presenter Ben Fordham argues the issue of vaccine mandates is now ‘too big to ignore’.

Even Western Australia‘s strict vaccine mandates spearheaded by Premier Mark McGowan are being scaled back significantly from next week.

From Friday June 10, only people working in health, age and disability care, will be required to be jabbed.

Radio presenter Ben Fordham argues the issue of vaccine mandates is now ‘too big to ignore’

‘I’ve been saying for some time that vaccine rules were put in place to encourage people to get the jab,’ he said.

‘That campaign is over. We got to 95 per cent. Anyone who said no – is not going to change their mind now. We can’t keep punishing people for exercising a choice.’

‘Vaccine mandates were ‘sold’ to us – as a way of getting Australia out of lockdown. We’re not in lockdown anymore. And vaccine mandates have outlived their purpose.’

He says the draconian measures are now only serving two purposes – ‘Destroying people’s lives and leaving the rest of us disadvantaged – because there’s a shortage of paramedics and frontline medical staff.’

About 10,000 full time and casual school staff in NSW have been affected by Covid vaccine mandates lobbied by the Teachers Union, creating immense pressure on the state’s education system.

Bosses in the broader jobs market are also struggling to find enough staff with the number of migrants and working holidaymakers to Australia still lagging on the heels of the pandemic creating a shortfall.

Judith, who worked as a teacher for three decades, lost her job in November after refusing to roll up her sleeve.

‘My husband and son were working at one of Australia’s biggest airlines. Our oldest daughter had trained to be a speech pathologist,’ she said.

‘We made a family decision not to have the jab. These mandates have utterly destroyed our lives.’

Qualified teacher Amanda says she lost her job over the jab and has spent the first six months of this year ‘clinically depressed’.

A lifeguard who did not wish to be named, said he was dismissed due to Sydney’s Waverley Council’s vaccine policy and ‘has never been so depressed’

‘All I ever wanted to do was teach for the rest of my life. The mandate destroyed my life’.

Depression and deteriorating mental health issues appears to be a common thread among those affected by vaccine mandates.

A lifeguard who did not wish to be named, said he was dismissed due to Sydney’s Waverley Council’s vaccine policy.

‘We are understaffed and have had an alarming number of recent medical incidents which require all hands on deck.

‘I have never been so depressed about my future. I am now seeing a psychologist. These mandates have ripped me apart.’

Fordham responded to the heartwrenching story by calling the council policy ‘ridiculous’.

‘If your child was drowning at Bondi Beach – would you give a stuff about the vaccination status of the lifeguard?’ he said.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted NSW Health for comment on the matter.

If you or anyone you know is suffering from depression call Lifeline on 13 11 14.

WHY VACCINES ARE IMPORTANT

Immunisation is a simple, safe and effective way of protecting people against harmful diseases before they come into contact with them.

Immunisation not only protects individuals, but also others in the community, by reducing the spread of preventable diseases.

Research and testing is an essential part of developing safe and effective vaccines.

In Australia, vaccines must pass strict safety testing before the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) will register them for use. Approval of vaccines can take up to 10 years.

Before vaccines become available to the public, large clinical trials test them on thousands of people.

High-quality studies over many years have compared the health of large numbers of vaccinated and unvaccinated children. Medical information from nearly 1.5 million children around the world have confirmed that vaccination does not cause autism.

People first became concerned about autism and immunisation after the medical journal The Lancet published a paper in 1998. This paper claimed there was a link between the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine and autism. Since then, scientists have completely discredited this paper. The Lancet withdrew it in 2010 and printed an apology. The UK’s General Medical Council struck the author off the medical register for misconduct and dishonesty.
