This past weekend, Barcelona director Mateu Alemany confirmed that the club will continue to explore the free agent pool for new signings in the summer of next year, having had success with Bosman signings of late.
Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie have all arrived at Spotify Camp Nou in recent windows, with the club having had to operate with limited resources due to financial difficulties.
And, the Catalans are set to continue with that strategy next summer as well, with several targets such as N’Golo Kante, Diogo Dalot, Jorginho, and Naby Keita, among others, already being looked at.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, another name on Barcelona’s agenda over a possible Bosman transfer next year is Inter Milan’s defensive mainstay Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakian international has established himself as one of the best and most consistent defenders in Serie A over the years. He was a subject of serious transfer interest from Paris Saint-Germain this past summer but a move failed to materialise.
However, PSG continue to remain keen on signing the 27-year-old, whose contract with Inter Milan is bound to expire at the end of the season. Along with the French champions, Barcelona are also reportedly monitoring his situation at the Giuseppe Meazza.
The Blaugrana got a good look at Skriniar when they faced Inter last week in the Champions League. They will have another opportunity to watch him in action from close quarters when the two teams meet again this Wednesday.
With Gerard Pique in the final phase of his career at Barcelona, they need a new central defender. While a move for Inigo Martinez seems more probable, Xavi Hernandez & co. remain attentive to Skriniar’s situation as a player of his quality and pedigree can be a top signing.
However, PSG are still in the hunt while Inter Milan also wish to extend his contract. So, it will be anything but easy for the Blaugrana to land the Slovakian.
