Barcelona’s hopes of signing Youssoufa Moukoko on a free transfer in the summer have taken a hammerblow as the striker is set to renew with Borussia Dortmund, reports BILD.
Moukoko has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Germany. The 18-year-old has made a fine start to the 2022/23 campaign, scoring six goals and setting up as many in 22 games across all competitions.
The German international’s current contract with Dortmund stands to expire at the end of the season, which had opened up the possibility of him leaving as a free agent in the summer.
Barcelona, for one, had shown strong interest in securing his services in a Bosman deal before next season. The Catalan giants are intent on signing a new centre-forward to cover for Robert Lewandowski and share the goalscoring burden with the veteran striker.
Reports in Spain had indicated that Moukoko himself would be open to joining the Blaugrana. At the same time, though, talks with Dortmund were always going on, even though there were hurdles along the way.
But, as per BILD, Moukoko has made his decision to sign with Dortmund. The 18-year-old will be penning an extension until the summer of 2026, with the report further claiming that he would be pocketing wages of around €6 million per year.
On top of that, Moukoko is also set to pocket a handsome €10 million as signing-on bonus while his representative will be earning a commission of €5 million along with 10% of the striker’s salary.
Some reports had suggested that Moukoko could push for Dortmund to include a release clause worth a low amount which clubs like Barcelona can trigger in the future. But there is no mention of any such provision in the report from BILD.
