Black Coffee opens up on how he managed to get over ex-wife Enhle Mlotshwa so quick

Popular DJ Nkosinathi “Black Coffee” Maphumulo has shed light on the importance of therapy and how it helped him heal.

When Black Coffee was engaged in court battles with his estranged wife, Enhle Mlotshwa, the DJ often shot up trends lists and was labelled a ‘bad person’ by the peanut gallery, as details of his failed marriage emerged.

When advising a childhood friend, Shota, on Mzansi Magic’s #PSILoveYouWedding special, the Grammy award-winner spoke about the importance of therapy and why he consulted a therapist to help him take responsibility for his actions.

“When I was first going through my divorce stuff, the first therapist I saw, I told her, ‘I need you to help me get over the fact that I’m being told how horrible I am as a human being. I’m starting to believe it, I need you help me and, if I am terrible, tell me’ …”

“So I did that … when I’m fine I changed my therapist. I went to another one and said to her; ‘help me take responsibility for all my actions’ … ” he said.

Black Coffee went on to say that his advice came from his newfound perspective on fame.

“It is the most important thing to do. Understanding fame, the way I understand fame now. It is the most important thing. You need to be deeply rooted in two things … God and therapy.”

In a recent sit-down on Steven Bartlett’s podcast The Diary of a CEO, the DJ revealed that he moved out of the marital home.

He found a house and asked his mother, who has a heart issue, to move in, but he now has his own house next door.

“The neighbour’s house, that’s where my mom and children are going to stay. That’s a Nathi house. That’s where you’re going to find me on the floor, on the grass playing with my children. Then next door, that’s the Black Coffee house.”
