Barcelona are set to play hosts to Inter Milan later this evening, in what could be the club’s first real ‘final’ of the new season.
The Catalans are heading into this clash needing three points, after falling to a 1-0 defeat victory to the Nerazzurri in the reverse fixture. With the possibility of yet another group stage exit looming large, this will arguably be the most important game for Barça so far this season.
The home supporters, though, are ready to back their team in this important fixture and have sold out Camp Nou, if reports from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Miquel Blasquez) are to be believed.
The Spanish news outlet suggests Barça have sold all tickets for tonight’s game. The stadium is forecasting a grand total of 96,000 spectators.
Barcelona’s rousing home support should serve as the proverbial 12th man for the hosts, and the stadium is also set to feature a mosaic with the #12 jersey in Blaugrana.
However, the onus will be on the players to deliver the goods, especially after a disappointing performance in the reverse fixture that saw them struggle to break the shackles of the Inter backline.
This time around, Xavi Hernandez is expected to make some crucial tactical changes, with Frenkie de Jong among the players likely to return to the starting eleven.
Inter Milan, for their part, are dealing with a few key absentees including Marcelo Brozovic and Joaquin Correa while star striker Romelu Lukaku also remains a doubt. Barcelona are seeking to capitalise on Inter’s depleted squad, in their quest to snatch all three points this evening.
A win will put Barcelona in a more comfortable position. But the Catalans would require three points against Viktoria Plzen and a win against Bayern Munich as well if they are to confirm their place in the last 16.
